Introducing the New Integrated Interprofessional Education (IPE) Curriculum
We are delighted to announce the launch of the new Interprofessional Education (IPE) curriculum at the University of Toronto. As of September 2016, the IPE curriculum has evolved to a more developmental, longitudinal and integrated format. The curriculum has been redesigned to meet the needs of our students, faculty, practice community, and ultimately, patients/clients and families.
Starting this academic year, new scheduled learning activities are being phased in and integrated into profession-specific curricula. Designed to develop competencies for collaborative practice (as described in the Framework for the Development Interprofessional Values and Core Competencies), the new learning activities for the 2016 incoming cohort of health professional students are:
· Roles of Health Professions and Team Dynamics
· Understanding Patient/Client Partnerships
· Quality Improvement and Patient/Client Safety
The IPE curriculum will continue to offer the four previous required core learning activities:
· Teamwork: Your Future in Healthcare
· Conflict in Interprofessional Teams
· Case-based Discussion (Pain Curriculum or Palliative Care)
· IPE Component in Clinical Placements (Flexible or Structured)
Elective learning activities will also continue to be offered both at the University and in practice settings across the Greater Toronto Area.
