Longitudinal Interprofessional Facilitator Training (LIFT) Program
Open to all 1st year students*
*2nd year students for those in the Medical Radiation Sciences program
The Interprofessional Education (IPE) Curriculum Portfolio at the University of Toronto, collaboratively led by the Centre for Advancing Collaborative Healthcare & Education (CACHE) partnering with 12 health & social care programs and a practice network including more than 15 Toronto hospitals, is delighted to announce that learners are now able to sign-up for the Longitudinal Interprofessional Facilitator Training (LIFT) Program. Students wishing to develop facilitation and collaborative leadership skills are encouraged to register for LIFT. This program is open to 100 students who will be paired with a peer; they will co-facilitate together at various Foundational activities as part of this program.
LIFT will provide students with in-depth learning and experiences of effective facilitation while mobilizing evidence-informed approaches from education science. The objectives of the LIFT Program are to:
- Develop & practice collaborative leadership skills, including facilitation of effective team processes for shared decision-making & establish a climate for shared leadership, accountability, and collaborative practice.
- Apply education science approaches during facilitation of IPE Foundational learning activities.
It is highly recommended that students review the program criteria to fully understand the commitment and requirements of the program.
LIFT Program Criteria (specific dates have been provided further below)
- Students must be the 1st year (2nd year for MRS) of their program.
- Complete general facilitator training (1.5 hours)
- Participate in LIFT program orientation (30 minutes)
- Complete 3 LIFT e-learning sessions prior to each Foundational IPE activity (30-45 minutes each)
- Prepare for activities with your co-facilitator prior to each Foundational IPE activity
- Co-facilitate 3 Foundational activities in the 2025 – 2026 academic year (if your program does not require you to complete that Foundational activity, as part of LIFT, you will be required to participate in and facilitate that activity)
- Participate in 3 debrief sessions following each Foundational activity (15-20 minutes each)
- Participate in an exit interview at the end of the LIFT program in Feb-Mar 2026 (30-45 min)
Once registered, participants are expected to attend all requisite activities listed below.
(1) IPE Facilitator Workshop: Monday September 29, 2025 | 5:15pm – 7:30pm | Virtual on Zoom
(2) LIFT Program Orientation: Monday September 29, 2025 | 7:30pm – 8:00pm | Virtual on Zoom
(3) Why Collaborative Healthcare? Learning from Stories and Science (Foundational IPE Activity #1)
- (3a) Review activity material and recorded orientation (independent time with your co-facilitator - material and recording will be posted on Quercus)
- (3 b) Asynchronous Education Science Module, Meaningful Variation – on Quercus (approx. 45 min)
- (3 c) Actual Session: Thursday October 9th, 2025 | 3:30pm-5:30pm | Virtual on Zoom
- (3 d) Debrief Session: Thursday October 9th, 2025 | 5:30pm – 6:00pm |Virtual on Zoom
(4) Who are your Collaborators? Valuing what we do and challenging what we think (Foundational IPE Activity #2)
- (4 a) Review activity material and recorded orientation (independent time with your co-facilitator - material and recording will be posted on Quercus)
- (4 b) Asynchronous Education Science Module, Productive Struggle – on Quercus (approx. 45 min)
- (4 c) Actual Session: Monday, November 10th, 2025 | 3:30-5:30pm | HYBRID (in person & virtual)
- (4 d) Independent Debrief with your co-facilitator (immediately following the session)
(5) Cultivating Team Partnerships: Learning from Lived Experiences (Foundational IPE Activity #3)
- (5 a) Review activity material and recorded orientation (independent time with your co-facilitator - material and recording will be posted on Quercus)
- (5 b) Asynchronous Education Science Module, Critical Dialogue – on Quercus (approx. 45 min)
- (5 c) Actual Session: Monday, January 19th, 2026 | 3:30-5:30pm | HYBRID (in person & virtual)
- (5 d) Independent Debrief with your co-facilitator (immediately following the session)
Please check all dates before registering to ensure you are able to attend all sessions.
Upon completion of all requirements, students will receive:
- A Certificate of Completion for the LIFT Program.
- Two IPE Elective Recognitions at the Exposure Level.
